This article was conducted to identify the conditions and causes of the informal economy in the historic center of Barranquilla city in the year 2012, it started as the execution of a research project: The Informal Economy in the Historic Center of Barranquilla in 2012, we managed to analyze the implications of the business activities performed by the street vendors in this part of the city; and contribute with substantial data for the making of future public policies aiming to better the quality of life of these people and their families. 
Este artículo es el resultado del abordaje de una problemática social vigente en la ciudad de Barranquilla, que se originó con la formulación y ejecución del proyecto de investigación: La Informalidad en el Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de Barranquilla en el año 2012, con el cual se logró analizar las implicaciones de las actividades comerciales realizadas por los vendedores informales de este sector de la ciudad; y aportar datos significativos a la elaboración de políticas públicas futuras dirigidas al mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de estas personas y de sus familiares.
