| dc.description | The article revisits the argument expressed by C. Wright Mills, who stated that if we want social sciences to be meaningful today, in addition to the abundant information we have at hand about society, what we need is sociological imagination. This proposition gives rise to another argument contending that social science professionals would do well to work together with professionals from other disciplines when designing and implementing development projects aimed at benefiting communities. These kinds of development projects are expected to be successful, but the fact is that often times they do not reach their goals because there is a lack of multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary communication, but particularly because the cultural characteristics of the communities are not always taken into account. | en-US |

Wright Mills expresó cuando afirmaba que más que la abundante información disponible sobre la sociedad, lo que hoy necesitamos para darle sentido a las ciencias sociales es imaginación sociológica. El argumento permite elaborar otro argumento cual es el de afirmar que los profesionales de las ciencias sociales deben trabajar unidos con los profesionales de otras disciplinas cuando se diseñan e implementan proyectos de desarrollo orientados a beneficiar a las comunidades. Se espera que esos proyectos de desarrollo sean exitosos, pero la realidad es que en muchas ocasiones jamás alcanzan sus metas y ello se debe, precisamente, a que no existe un diálogo multidisciplinario, interdisciplinario y transdisciplinario, y aún más porque las características culturales de las comunidades no siempre son tenidas en cuenta. | es-ES |
