dc.descriptionLeukemias are malignancies of the hematopoietic system, involving the transformation of stem cells. Worldwide correspond to 30% of malignant neoplasms in children. The description of the characteristics of leukemia in children under 15 years in Cali is scarce. Objective: Describe the characteristics and service times of a group of patients under 15 years with leukemia in Cali between August 2009 and March 2010. Methods: Retrospective study, case series, were included 19 patients younger than 15 years hospitalized in 3 IPS. Results: 57% (11) were in the tax regime, the average age was 7 years (± 4 years). The gender distribution was similar. The type of leukemia was observed in 95% (18) was LLA, 31% (6) the diagnosis of ALL had reported a specific classification of the cell line. The most common signs and symptoms were fever in 57% (11) and bleeding in 63% (12). It was found that the median time between the first consultation and diagnosis was 16 days (range: 1-60). Between the clampsia. diagnosis and treatment of 3 days (range: 0-11) and the treatment time was 12 months (range: 3-48). Conclusion: The clinical characteristics of patients were similar to those reported in other studies, however, they have an average of greater than reported in the literature age and have a diagnosis later time which may indicate a delay in the timely diagnosis of this diseasen-US
dc.descriptionLas leucemias son neoplasias malignas del sistema hematopoyético, que involucran la transformación de células progenitoras. A nivel mundial corresponden a 30% de las neoplasias malignas en niños. La descripción de las características de las leucemias en menores de 15 años en Cali es escasa. Objetivo: Describir las características y los tiempos de atención de un grupo de pacientes menores de 15 años con leucemia en la ciudad de Cali entre agosto de 2009 a marzo de 2010. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo retrospectivo, serie de casos que incluye 19 pacientes menores de 15 años hospitalizados en 3 IPS de la ciudad. Resultados: Del total de los pacientes, 57% (11) pertenecían al régimen contributivo, el promedio de edad fue 7 años (DE±4 años). La distribución por sexo fue similar. El tipo de leucemia que se observó en el 95% (18) fue LLA, en el 31% (6) el diagnóstico de LLA tenía reportada una clasificación específica de la línea celular. Los síntomas y signos más frecuentes fueron: fiebre 57% (11) y sangrado en 63% (12). Se encontró que la mediana de tiempo entre la primera consulta y el diagnóstico fue de 16 días (Rango: 1-60). Entre el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de 3 días (Rango: 0-11) y el tiempo de tratamiento fue de 12 meses (Rango: 3-48). Conclusión: Las características clínicas de los pacientes fueron similares a las descritas en otros estudios, sin embargo, tienen un promedio de edad mayor al reportado en la literatura y cuentan con un tiempo de diagnóstico más tardío lo que puede indicar un retardo en el diagnóstico oportuno de esta enfermedad.es-ES
