In the biofiltration process of biodegradation of an air stream contaminated with phenol was performed with a supersaturated entry concentration of 100 ppm and retention time (tr) of 92.4 seconds, with continuous operation of 30 days in which we evaluated parameters such as fill material humidity, temperature, pH, in order to establish the removal efficiency in the biofilter. The biofilter consists in 4 stages in which there was an average removal of 97%, with maximum removal at stage 4 with a 100% and a minimum of 92% in stage 2. The day 20th of start-up was found that the humidity content was 15% and had an average pressure drop of 1.2 mmHg, this implies that for the studied variables that determine the optimal development of the biofilter did not comply with the limits minimum standards established in previous studies. Therefore, it is considered that the high percentage of removal efficiency is due to the current output in stage 4, there was a sufficient flow of gas that would accurately measure the amount of phenol present in it. We conclude that having a detailed control of the variables involved in the process can achieve high effectiveness in the treatment of phenol contaminated air through biofiltration.Eng
