Impacto económico del Covid-19 en la industria farmacéutica y en Megalabs Colombia S.A.S.

| dc.description.abstract | La pandemia del Covid-19 causó una serie de impactos en todos los sectores económicos alrededor del mundo; la sociedad prestó más atención a todo lo relacionado con el cuidado de la salud, lo que ratificó la importancia de la industria farmacéutica. Las dimensiones del impacto económico del Covid-19 se clasifican en dos: la relacionada con el desempeño financiero de la industria (PIB, indicadores económicos) y lo referente a la generación de empleo; el presente artículo reflexivo expone el impacto económico del Covid-19 en dicha industria respecto a la primera dimensión tanto de forma global como local (Colombia) y además, presenta un caso de estudio específico sobre estos impactos en la compañía farmacéutica Megalabs Colombia S.A.S. Desde un punto de vista universal, el sector farmacéutico ha presentado un crecimiento exponencial en ventas y valores desde años atrás (antes de la pandemia), no obstante, eso no impidió que también sufriera un detrimento en sus indicadores económicos debido a diferentes factores, entre los que destaca la demanda inducida por el “pánico de compra”; los problemas de importación y exportación por causa de las dificultades en el transporte de los insumos, materias primas y productos, lo que se traduce en una escasez de los mismos; y la disminución de ventas por los canales tradicionales que facilitaban el contagio físico del virus. Es debido a esto último que, la industria farmacéutica fue una de las que mayor inversión presentó en la transformación de sus canales de comunicación de físico a digitales, lo que le permitió mantenerse a flote durante la pandemia y repuntar más fácilmente que otras industrias a la pronta recuperación de su mercado. | spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | The Covid-19 pandemic caused a series of impacts on all economic sectors all over the world; society paid more attention to everything related to healthcare, which ratified the importance of the pharmaceutical industry. The dimensions of the economic impact of Covid-19 are classified in two: the one related to the financial performance of the industry (GDP, key performance economic indicators) and the one related to the generation of employment; this reflection article exposes the economic impact of Covid-19 in this industry regarding the first dimension both globally and locally (Colombia) and also presents a specific case study on these impacts in the pharmaceutical company Megalabs Colombia. From a general point of view, the pharmaceutical sector has presented an exponential growth in sales and values since years ago (before the pandemic), however, this did not prevent it from also suffering a detriment in its economic indicators due to different factors, among which stands out the demand induced by the "panic buying"; the importing and exporting issues due to difficulties in the shipping of supplies, raw materials and products, which resulted in shortages; and the decrease in sales through traditional channels that facilitated the physical spread of the virus. It is due to the latter that the pharmaceutical industry was one of the industries that invested the most in the transformation of its communication channels from physical to digital, which allowed it to stay afloat during the pandemic and rebound easier than other industries to the early recovery of its market. | spa |
