| spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | The abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a segmental dilatation of the aorta, which is defined as an increase of 50% of its normal size (3cm), the infrarenal location is the most frequent, and these are considered as true aneurysms. Among the most frequent causes are hypertension, atherosclerosis, infections, trauma, and inherited or acquired connective tissue diseases. There are 2 methods of AAA repair: open aortic repair and endovascular repair (EVAR), finding a lower rate of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing endovascular repair. The rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is associated with high mortality, although it has decreased in recent decades, secondary to the performance of endovascular surgery as the first line of treatment and advances in anesthetic and perioperative management. The present work is a descriptive and retrospective study during 2 years at the Organizacion Clinica General del Norte (OCGN) studying a total sample of 76 patients who were taken to endovascular AAA repair in a programmed and urgent manner, focusing on characterizing the different variables and assess the outcome of these patients. Concluding that endovascular treatment of aortic pathologies is now a reality and a safe alternative to open surgery, the review and characterization of patients was similar to that found and described in the national and international literature, showing a decrease in morbidity and mortality and hospital stay, which are important and superior characteristics when compared with open surgery. | spa |
